Getting around Singapore is easy and inexpensive. Excellent bus services complement one of the world's most modern and efficient Mass Rapid Transit (MRT) systems.
One can also get around by metred and air-conditioned taxis, or hire a car and make your own way around the city. Even trishaws can be hired for a different perspective to sightseeing.
The EZ-link Card
The ez-link card is a contactiess tap-and-go smart card and is a convenient way of paying fares both on MRT trains and buses. You can purchase an ez-link card with pre-paid stored travel values at TransitLink Ticket Offices at MRT stations and selected bus interchanges and Passenger Service Centres at MRT stations. Using your ez-link card on the MRT
Tap your ez-link card on the faregate card reader. if you require assistance with your ez-link card, you may approach the MRT Passenger Service Centre or the TransitLink Ticket Office.
Using your ez-link card on buses
Tap your ez-link card on the entry card reader upon boarding. Before alighting, tap your ez-link card on the exit card reader.
The Singapore Tourist Pass
The Singapore Tourist Pass is the only All-Day travel pass that offers tourists unlimited travel* on Singapore's public buses and MRT trains. Explore the island with great ease with a 1, 2 or 3 All-Day travel pass encoded onto an ez-link card.

*Unlimited travel only on basic public bus and train services. It starts upon the very Frst 'tap' of the Pass on bus or MRT readers of basic services and will run for the duration of the number of days the All-Day Pass is purchased for. It will expire at the end of the public transport work day (i.e. the last bus/train) on the last day of the pass duration.
It excludes rides on Express bus services such as Fast Forward and NightRider and Nite Owl bus routes.

Travelling within Singapore is so easy thanks to its efficient, reliable and affordable public transport system.
MRT
This modern, air-conditioned passenger train network has stations all over the city. Trains operate from 5.30am until midnight daily. Train fares are inexpensive and range from S$0.90 to S$1.90. A card with stored value of S$15 can be purchased (consisting of S$3 refundable travel deposit, S$5 non-refundable card cost and a minimum travel value of S$7) at most MRT stations.The ez-link farecard is also valid on public buses. Buses
Public bus services operate from 6am to midnight daily. Fares can be paid with an ez-link farecard or by cash. Fares range from S$0.80 to S$1.50 for non air-conditioned buses and 5$0.90 to S$1.80 for air-conditioned buses. if you are paying by cash, the exact fare is required so it would be best to keep some change with you. You can ask the bus driver for the appropriate fare to your destination if you are unsure of how much to pay.
Taxis
Taxis can be flagged from hotels and taxi stands as well as or the streets. The initial flag down meter fare starts from S$2.80, which covers the first 1 km. The fare then rises at S50.20 for approximately every 330m covered. Different taxi companies impose different surcharges so check with the driver before you board the taxi.

Navigating the Singapore City
Travelling within Singapore is so easy thanks to its efficient and relatively inexpensive transport network – the train system is hassle-free and efficient, busses are chap, and taxis are numerous. If you plan to travel via public transport a lot, buy a $15 EZ-Link card with an encoded $10 value (available from all MRT train stations) which allows cashless payment on all public buses and trains.
EZ-Link Card
The ez-link card is a convenient way of paying fares on both MRT and bus services. You can purchase an ez-link card at any Passenger Service Centre in MRT Stations and TransitLink Ticket Office for S$15.00, consisting of a travel value of S$7.00, a refundable travel deposit of S$3.00 and a non-refundable card cost of S$5.00. You may top-up the travel value at the Passenger Service Centre, General Ticketing Machines in MRT stations or TransitLink ticket offices. You can collect the refunable deposit at TransitLink ticket offices.
Using the ez-link card is easy. You do not need to know how much to pay. Simply tap the ez-link card on the entry card reader and wait for the green light to appear. Bus
With a comprehensive island-wide network, Singapore's bus services allow you to travel to all corners of the island and experience at first hand, Singapore's vibrant street life. The public bus services are run by town main operators, SBS Transit and SMRT Buses, and they are generally available from 5.30am to 12 midnight daily. Learn more about Bus services in Singapore.
Mass Rapid Transit (MRT)
The MRT system is a quick and comfortable way of getting around Singapore. It comprises three main lines - North South (Red), East West (Green) and North East (Purple) Lines - and it generally operates between 5.30am and 12 midnight daily. Learn more about the MRT
Taxis
If you prefer a personalised service, simply get a cab from any of the seven taxi companies or the yellow top taxis owned by individuals.
River Taxis – Singapore River Cruises (6336-6111) operates daily 9am-11pm (last trip 10.30pm). Singapore Explorer (6339-6833) operates daily 0am-11pm (last trip 10.30pm).
Getting to and from the airport
SBS Bus 36 plies between Changi Airport and Orchard Road, and departs every 10 minutes. Call 1800- 767-4333 for details.
MRT – The journey takes about half an hour and single trip cost $1.50. The first train departs City Hall Mon-Sat 5.59am, Sun and public holidays 6.27am. From Changi Airport MRT station, the first train departs Mon-Fri 5.31am, Sun and public holidays 5.59am. The last train departs 12.06am.
