No one in his right mind would normally jump out of a perfectly functioning aircraft at an altitude of 4000 metres, but with a functional parachute and the knowledge on how to deploy it correctly, you’d be surprised at the amount of thrill seekers there are out there. For now, there are no opportunities for the general public to sky-dive in Singapore, although there is a group of Singapore based skydivers that organises courses withdrop zones in Malaysia or Thailand. Don’t pout; wannabe skydivers won’t have to wait much longer to launch themselves. A skydiving simulator, aptly named ‘iFly Singapore’, will be built by Skyventure Singapore to the tune of $16min Sentosa, and will be complete by theend of the second quarter of 2009. This simulator is actually a seventeen-metre high wind tunnel that stretches five metres across, and while the actual experience of skydiving can’t be completely replicated, the iFly Singapore will come pretty close. The fee should placate the unconvinced. It won’t cost more than $40, which is a tenth of that for overseas tandem skydives, and also includes rental of gear and professional coaching.
