Chinatown

This colourful ethnic neighbourhood is filled with national heritage conservation sites and interconnected narrow streets lined with shops. Explore the area and you’ll see local craftsmen making wooden clogs or laying out herbs to dry under the blazing sun. Get a glimpse of the past at the Chinatown Heritage Centre, a three-storey shop house in which the spartan living conditions of the early Chinese immigrants are reproduced. Chinatown is also home to the 160-year old Thian Hock Kheng Temple, one of Singapore's oldest and largest, the Buddha Tooth Relic Temple and Museum, and the bustling Street Market at Pagoda Street, a treasure trove of souvenirs, calligraphy, handmade fans and more, as well as the Sri Mariamman Temple, Singapore's oldest Hindu temple and a national monument.
