The largest and most established race in this region, Marathon Singapore 2010 is back for the the 8th year running.

Organised by the Singapore Sports Council (SSC) and the Singapore Athletic Association(SAA), Standard Chartered Marathon Singapore has been held annually since 2002 and is a key highlight in Singapore's calendar of established international running events.

This year, some 60,000 runners will make this the largest local marathon here in Singapore. One of the Republic's marquee sports events, the Singapore Marathon has achieved record participation numbers every year since its inception: from 6,000 in 2002 to 24,000 in 2005 and 50,000 last year.

Standard Chartered Marathon Singapore 2010 Race Category

Depending on which category they are sign up for, participants this year will start at different points.

The full marathon will begin near Ngee Ann City, the half-marathon at Sentosa Bridge and the 10km race at the Esplanade. All three routes will end at the Padang.

An updated map of the Marathon Singapore 2010 race route will only be available in October 2010.

The Marathon Singapore 2010 route will be getting a makeover this year, starting from three different points, taking marathon runners from all categories through scenic routes that take in the country's major sights.

Full marathoners will start their race from Orchard Road, half-marathoners will run past Universal Studios at Sentosa, while those taking part in the 10km race will cross the Helix Bridge at Marina Bay.
