Chingay which derived from China is a speciality of Penang, The spectacular flag carrying and balancing feat in the well-known Chingay procession was confined to celebration of birthday of chinese deities only. However, over the years the Chingay procession had changed from its original purpose to the promotion of tourism. Today, Chingay is not only performed by the Chinese, but the art has successfully attracted the Malays and Indians. It has become a very unique multiracial performance.

A Magnificent Performance Of Acrobatics. Chingay is believed to have originated from China. It is a street art where the performer balances a giant flag that ranges from 25 ft to 32 ft in height and about 60 pounds in weight. Gradually it has become one of the cultural events and an integral component of the state's heritage in Penang. Chingay art performance is held whenever there is any auspicious celebrations.
